The First Birthday Celebration with Tony and Enzo

Nonna had the privilege of being the first person to celebrate a birthday with both Tony and Enzo on Sunday afternoon.

We had the family over for my mother-in-law’s birthday and it really was a great time. Tony was cuter than ever and Enzo was wide awake all day long, showing off his beautiful eyes for pictures with the birthday girl.

August is a great month for birthdays in the family. We started off with Nonna, then we move to daddy and then to Grandmom.

How better to celebrate birthdays then with a two-year-old and a newborn?! Today was just so much fun for all involved.

Amidst the Happiness of Children, There is Something Missing

No matter h0w happy children can make you, there will always be something missing from your life. What that something is will be different with each person.

For me, I am missing more than one thing. In fact, I am missing people. Through all of the joy of watching Tony grow-up and Enzo enter our world, there is still pain and grief that can be unbearable at times.

I will never forget Easter Sunday in 2012. We had the family at our house because Tony was barely two weeks old. When my parents and in-laws arrived, the two grandmothers shared a moment on the back patio.

Oh the Joys of Raising a Two-Year-Old

Our oldest son, Tony, is two years and four months old. He has been showing signs of moving into the ‘terrible twos’ for quite some time now. There will be days when nothing can go right for him and then there are days where he is the sweetest boy on Earth. Understandably so, especially since he had to welcome a baby brother into the house this week.

Well, one of the most frustrating things he has started to do lately is respond to almost everything we ask him to do with the following:

“No, I can’t do that anymore.”

This has become his trademark response for everything, and we mean everything. When you tell Tony it is time to eat a meal, you better be prepared to hear his trademark response.

Tony and Enzo

Not all sets of brothers will develop a bond that stays with them through life. For those who do get to experience the bond of brotherhood, it can be very special. A bond between brothers is nearly unbreakable and can be one of the strongest bonds in a family setting today.

So, why are we discussing a brotherly bond today? Well, now that I have two sons, I can look back at the bond my brother and I have and watch as Tony and Enzo develop their bond over the years.

Just when I think Tony could not be anymore adorable, he offers a helping hand with Enzo. He genuinely wants to help out as much as he can, even when we change his diaper.

Tony has a little Sesame Street stool that is for the bathroom so he can reach over the counter and wash his hands, but it has been relocated to Enzo’s room for the time being. Tony uses his stool to stand at the changing table and help mommy, daddy or anyone else who is changing Enzo.

On a lighter side, he likes to analyze what Enzo leaves in his diapers, commenting on the size of the presents left for those who change him. We definitely get a kick out of it and he knows we think its funny.
