All Aboard! Tony and Enzo Ride the Rails at Strasburg

On Saturday, we decided to take Tony and Enzo to Ronks, PA for a visit to the Strasburg Rail Road. Tony had been on the train before, right around the time he was six-months old, but today sure was fun!

It was Tony’s first real train ride, outside of the smaller trains on the Ocean City boardwalk, and he absolutely loved it. We rode the rails for a good 45 minutes, a 9-mile round trip all told, and then walked across the street to visit the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

The station was bustling today as Thomas and Percy came for a visit for the first time since the month of June. We did not get the chance to ride on the trains pulled by either one of these engines, but we did ride the traditional steam engine at Strasburg.

Wednesday night began pretty inauspiciously. We loaded the boys in the car and went to Smitty’s Clam Bar in Somers Point for dinner. It was our first visit to our favorite seafood spot at the shore all summer.

The wait was not long for a table, just 30 minutes, so we took Tony to the back of the property to look at all the boats on the bay. We enjoyed the breeze and were called inside after just 15 minutes.

This was Enzo’s first visit to the Clam Bar, but I don’t know if we can count it as an official one since his eyes were closed the entire time we were there. The food was spectacular as usual and after we finished, we loaded the boys in the car once again and started towards the Ocean City boardwalk.

On Saturday night, of Labor Day weekend, we went to the Ocean City boardwalk so Tony could do the rides with his uncles.

Uncle Jimmie, Uncle Kevin and Uncle Chris all wanted to see their nephew enjoy the rides while also doing them with him. We brought Enzo along for the ride and he stayed awake for a little while before finally falling into a deep sleep despite all of the noise and lights.

We began the night with Tony flying a helicopter with Grandmom. Then, we headed over to the train so he could ride with Uncle Kevin, Uncle Chris and Dina.

After the train, Tony rode the Beach Buggy’s with Uncle Jimmie, Uncle Chris and Dina. He smiled on every ride and finished the night by going on the merry-go-round with his favorite girl, Mommy.

On Thursday night, upon arrival in Ocean City, we walked the five blocks to Simpson Avenue to spend time with Grandmom, Poppi, Gia and Uncle Jimmie.

Not long after we arrived, my cousins from my Grandmother’s side of the family came to visit us from Avalon. Grandmom’s brother, Uncle Sodie; his wife, Aunt Jeannie; and their daughters, Jean Marie and Kathy all dropped by the house.

We had dessert and talked about old times at the shore with family members no longer with us.

The best part of the night was Tony meeting these cousins for the first time. Uncle Jimmie taught Tony how to say Uncle Sodie before they got to the house so he could surprise him when he got out of the car.

As we wrote yesterday, we took both Tony and Enzo to the doctor this week for dueling appointments. Tony was scheduled for a pre-op exam and Enzo was scheduled for his one-month checkup.

The appointment times were back-to-back, but we all went into the room together. The nurse examined Enzo first, who didn’t make a sound as he poked and prodded his head, stomach, legs and arms.

Then, the nurse asked Tony to take his shoes off. We cannot get Tony to keep his shoes on while in the car or at home, but he broke down into a tantrum when this request was made by the nurse.
