One year ago today Lorenzo came into our lives at 6:24pm in the evening. He was a tiny little thing; weighing in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces and only 20.5 inches long. That might be big for some people, but after the size of Tony when he was born, this was a small baby for us, especially Nicole.
From the minute he was born, we all saw a resemblance to his grandfather, Poppa, as Tony calls him. In fact, Enzo is named after his grandfather and it really fits.
Over the past year, we have seen Enzo make some silly faces that remind us of Poppa, whether they are goofy smiles or more serious ones. He so closely resembles Poppa that one of our friends calls him “Little Chris,” or “Little Pots and Pans,” a nickname for Enzo in the footsteps of his Poppa.
It is tough to sit down and write this tonight, with the house finally quiet, thinking about how much my little boy looks like his grandfather and even has his personality, but it is an honor to do so.
But, before everyone starts shedding tears, let’s move on to the fun stuff.
Enzo had an absolute blast at his party on Saturday. He crawled all around the yard, played with beachballs, tried to hula hoop and definitely enjoyed the icing on his smash cake. By the way, his smash cake was a beachball too and it was phenomenal.
Tony loved the day as well, playing with all of his cousins and Enzo. He sang to Enzo with the rest of the family and our friends and helped him blow out the candle on his cake.
On Sunday, Tony helped Enzo open his birthday gifts, which he really had no interest in at the time except for a set of sports balls (basketball, soccer ball and football) given to him from Cousin Robert.
It has been an incredible first year with Enzo, one that I will never forget. Watching him grow from a tiny newborn to the brute of a child that he is now has been fun. He learned to walk at around 10 months old and has been sprinting throughout the house ever since then.
His personality has developed a ton over the past handful of months as he has gone from a very serious baby who just took it all in to one that laughs at anything his older brother does or says.
This site will turn one on July 29. On that day we will take a look back at the previous year and all it had to offer us in our Life with Tony and Enzo.
