A Night of Excitement for Tony with Rides and Real Fire Trucks

IMG_1427

Wednesday night began pretty inauspiciously. We loaded the boys in the car and went to Smitty’s Clam Bar in Somers Point for dinner. It was our first visit to our favorite seafood spot at the shore all summer.

The wait was not long for a table, just 30 minutes, so we took Tony to the back of the property to look at all the boats on the bay. We enjoyed the breeze and were called inside after just 15 minutes.

This was Enzo’s first visit to the Clam Bar, but I don’t know if we can count it as an official one since his eyes were closed the entire time we were there. The food was spectacular as usual and after we finished, we loaded the boys in the car once again and started towards the Ocean City boardwalk.

All Tony wanted to do all day was hit the rides so we went right to them upon our arrival. Just a side note; I procured one of the best parking spots, with no meter, on the island last night.

We started the night with a ride on the ferris wheel for the very first time. Tony had asked to do this ride multiple times this year, but we were not sure how he would handle it if it stopped while he was at the top.

Mommy went on with him first and all he could do was smile and wave each time the bucket came to the bottom and he saw Daddy and Enzo on the ground. When the ride was done, I asked how he did when it stopped at the top. Mommy said that he was more disappointed when the ferris wheel started up again because he wanted to sit up there and look at the beach.

Tony wanted to do the ferris wheel again, so he went on a second time with Daddy. He enjoyed it just as much, but he could see the ferris wheel at the other end of the boardwalk. He began asking if he could do the other ferris wheel. We had to tell a little white lie that the other ferris wheel was not open yet because we only had tickets to one amusement park.

After the ferris wheel, Tony rode the Beach Buggy’s with Mommy and then we ventured out onto the boardwalk. He originally said he was done with the rides, but he changed his mind just a couple minutes later.

When we walked back in he rode the fire trucks and then, he did the Super Slide with Mommy, twice!

Tony finally had enough of the rides so Mommy went to Fralinger’s to pick up some fudge. We got Tony a large, swirled lollipop, but he fell asleep holding it during the car ride back to the house.

We put Tony to bed upon returning home, but he woke up about an hour later. It’s a good thing, because he got to see the fire truck park right outside the front of our house with its lights flashing.

Around 10:15 last night there was a motor vehicle accident on our block. Mommy brought Tony out onto the porch to see the fire truck pull up, which he absolutely loved.

Then, he told Mommy that he wanted to go see what was happening. She told him that it was too dangerous because there was glass all over the sidewalk and street.

Tony said, “That’s ok. I can wear my fire boots!”

Mommy had to explain to a two-year-old that his fire boots were just for play and that the ones worn by the firefighters are much stronger and protect their feet much better than his boots. He actually accepted this reason and stayed on the porch until the engine pulled away from the front of our house.

Tony left the engine with these parting words: “Bye bye fire truck. See you next time.”

Let’s just hope there is no next time, unless we take a walk to the firehouse to see them ourselves.
