It is 8:30 on the last day of January.

I am sitting in the family room with my amazing family.

Enzo is in the exersaucer, Tony is watching the iPad on the sofa and Nicole is sitting in her chair with Phoebe.

I will admit it; I used to love the show Glee. When it first came out, the actors were incredibly talented and the storylines were great. The show has lost some of its luster as it moves through its final season.

Nicole is watching the latest episode of Glee and the New Directions, the main high school singing group on the show, is doing a medley of songs.

The second song in the medley is the George Michael hit, “Father Figure.” I know every single lyric to the song and have know them my entire life. I also know that the song is not about a father and son relationship. Instead, it is about the subject of the song loving someone in every aspect of life and wanting to be the object of that person’s affection. Even though this is not about a father and son, despite the song title, the lyrics still hit home to a father who loves his sons more than anything in this world, including the Phillies! 

But, I do have to say, the song takes on new meaning as a father.

This is the first time I heard the song since having a child, and man does it really make you think.

The chorus is what sticks with me the most when I hear the song:

The day Tony was born, and then Enzo, I got to hold them in my arms and take their hands in mine. It was the most incredible experience I have enjoyed in my life to this point.

I have told Nicole more than once; I never thought I could love anyone more than I love her, until she gave birth to our sons. Not to take anything away from her, but the love I feel for my boys cannot be measured, described, or matched in this world.

Although, the final lyrics from the song sum up the love I have for Tony and Enzo pretty well:
