Saturday turned out to be the perfect day to put together the toddler firetruck bed that Nonna bought for Tony.
Mommy and Nonna took Tony and Enzo to Palmyra Day, where the boys got to see real firetrucks and ambulances. Tony also got to play in some bounce houses.
While everyone was out, I spent the morning putting together the firetruck bed and dismantling Tony’s beloved crib.
When everyone returned home, Tony was told to stay downstairs while Nonna put the Paw Patrol sheets and comforter on the bed.
Mommy arranged Tony’s fire gear next to the bed and lined up all of his stuffed animals in the cab of the truck.
They even put his Marshall stuffed animal in the driver’s seat.
Tony came up to his room with his eyes closed, but the minute he opened them, he broke down in tears and started screaming that he doesn’t want a big boy bed.
The tears were unstoppable, the screams were loud and Tony wanted no parts of his firetruck bed, despite his love for firetrucks and Paw Patrol.
Both Nonna and mommy did their best to calm him down and explain to him that it was time for a big boy bed. They even told little white lies as to why he had to make the switch.
One such story was that the doctor’s office called and said Tony had to switch to a big boy bed or else mommy and daddy would get in trouble.
That didn’t even work.
I left to cover a baseball game for my Cinnaminson website, but received a couple of picture messages and a video from Nicole while out. It was of Tony in his brand new bed, with a smile on his face.
Nicole said that a little catnap on the couch fixed everything. Tony woke up and went upstairs to get in his bed. The first night, Saturday night, Tony slept in the bed without any problems.
He did the same on Sunday night, not getting up until 9 this morning.
He got out of bed this morning, walked quietly down the steps and came into the family room. He scared me because I wasn’t used to him getting out of bed without help from anyone.
Since the bed was built, Tony has voluntarily gone up to his room to lay in it and snuggle with his animals. One can only hope that this will last and not turn out to be something he likes for just a couple of days.
